A Call To Die Challenge: Day 7
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edge sword, it penetrates even to dividing the soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eye of Him to whom we must give account.
- Hebrews 4:12-13
Know The Word
I want to be quick and concise today since it is Sunday (assuming you started the challenge on a Monday). I want you to rest in God’s presence today.
David Nasser speaks on the importance of knowing God’s word.
“Do you need to know what is in the heart of God? Do you need wisdom when you are confused? Do you need peace when anxiety threatens to turn your world upside down? Do you need encouragement because you have failed or been betrayed? Of course you do. We all do. How do we get the faith to believe God in good times and bad? It comes mostly through His word.”
If you were given a book at the age of 7 that contained every single detail about your future spouse. What do they like? What do they look like? How do you meet them? What to do to get them to like you? How do you end an argument well after you are married? Would you not read that book every single day?
I have a feeling you would. Why do we not passionately dive into the words that describe our Savior to learn all about Him and how we can interact with Him?
If you are struggling to read, try this.
- Schedule a specific time to read the word. What hour of the day will you read? (a schedule is one of the easiest ways to build consistency in anything).
- Refuse to take part in any distraction or activity that you enjoy until you have spent time with God in the word.
Next, when you read, don’t overcomplicate it. Ask these questions:
- What great thing did I learn about Jesus (who is God) from this passage?
- What does the passage say about mankind? (our tendencies, our desires, our capabilities in Christ, etc.)
- Is there a sin to avoid?
- Is there any promise of God?
- Now that I have heard this truth, how will my life be different?
I believe if you start there you will learn so much and will be changed for the better through God’s wisdom.
Workout and Nutrition
Don’t forget to walk today – perhaps try to go on a walk where you exclusively talk to God today. No distractions. Alone.
For nutrition, I recommend not going too strict for the sake of consistency for 40 days.
I will commit to these two rules:
- The majority of meals that I eat will be homemade (not overly processed foods)
- If I eat out I will ask for a to go box and save 1/4 of my meal to eat later in the week.
